All my welds are done with a gasless mig you have just got to know how to use it. Dont get me wrong a mig welder with gas is great and comes out mint. Get some mild steel sheet and practice if I get a chance this weekend I will see if I can make a small video on welding with gasless.

I love 918 Kalahari Tan, so you can't go wrong there. In terms of blue I like the factory blue as seen on Kats car. (So glad we didn't get the door buzzers here).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP9c1PAW_00

Hi Jeff

Just paint it the colour YOU want.

For me I always wanted a 305 Blue Bus with Black interior and gold Simmons wheels, and no one was going to change my mind (this time ;) )

Cheers

918 is a top choice Jeff, even though I went with porsche signal orange,  918 was my first choice and in looking back I wish I did go with that colour.

Very interesting to know that Mossy. I have wanted to copy you with the Porsche signal orange for a while, I had only recently decided it should be 918 orange to keep with the originality theme. I was even looking at FG Falcon "octane orange which looks pretty similar to the other 2 oranges. Your comments just make it easier to stick with 918 orange.

Hi PB. Have no fear I will paint it whatever colour I like, the only problem is I like quite a few colours. For me 918 orange is a nice safe choice that I know I wont regret. I do differ from you though as I have never wanted a bus, always preferred the 2 seater shape. Each to their own, Love is in the eye of the beholder.

Been a bit slow on the car of late as I have been doing some painting on a friends motorcycle parts to get some gun practice in preparation for painting the Zed.

I got a free afternoon on the weekend and spent the time filling in the hole where the radio antenna goes. There was also 6 drill holes in the LH rear QTR that I needed to fill in. They are in a straight line but I have no idea why they would have been there. Anyway they are welded up now.

Thanks for that, you are a genius Taylor. I had never seen one with a vinyl roof before but google was my friend and you are absolutely right.

So horrible, I once looked at a wine red 260z 2+2 with a black vinyl roof. About 16-17 years go now. The car was ok but the reason we didn't buy it was because of the vinyl roof :). I wonder which dealer was responsible for it.

There was a discussion about vinyl roof's here

http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1605-240z-with-the-vinyl-roof

Not my cup of tea that's for sure and even with all this talk of originality there is no way a vinyl roof is going back on the car. As for rust underneath the vinyl, my car is exceptionally rust free in the area where the vinyl roof was fitted. Maybe a previous owner did the only logical thing and had it removed early in the cars life.

It's looking fantastic Jeff! If it was me and had my z down to bare metal like that I'd probably just clearcoat it so I could truly enjoy that rust free goodness

As for the Vinyl roofs. They look ok (better then primer (well on my z anyway))

Hi Jeff

A most productive week indeed, and heading in the right direction.

The body is looking good.

Cheers

PB

Thanks PB, feeling pretty good about how the body is turning out.

I took all of the taping up newspaper off tonight and gave it a quick block down rub where I have a few imperfections and it looks like 90% of the imperfections will block out in the DTM primer I am using.

I will try and get all of the seam sealer work around the hatch slam panel and roof seams, then finish all the metal prep work around the tail lights and hatch area and hopefully prime all that this weekend.

the LH rear quarter lines are nice and sharp as it was in good condition under the previous paint. The Rh rear quarter is not so good and it will be a challenge to get the body lines just as sharp.

Nice work Buddy, to get the lines right, load up more primer on the lines, afterwards, triple tape below the line and use a black guide coat and at 45 degree strokes towards the tape line block the primer back.

Then tape above the line again and again 45 degree block stokes to the tape line.

Once you are done you should end up with a black guide coat pencil like line.

Gently work over it with a soft block and you should end up with a perfect line that you can feather to the correct contour.

Thanks for the tip John. I will try it out shortly and let you know how I get on.

Update time. So I have been getting the hatch area, the rear valance and tail light area, the area around the front windscreen and  the roof channels all back to bare metal and prepped for paint.

Hi All, It has been a while since anything of note has happened on the car. Last weekend I got the passenger door all prepped for paint inside and out.

post-100512-0-38007400-1458544495_thumb.jpg

I then painted the inside and frame in KBS rustseal.

Then today I got both door skins prepped for paint.

Then primed them both up.

I have locked in my colour choice for my car. I figured if I by 4L of it then I will be committed and can stop changing my mind. I am very happy with my choice. It is a modern colour, however I believe that being a solid colour and being sprayed in 2-pack with no clear it will look period correct. So for your viewing pleasure here it is, Mini Volcanic Orange.

Good stuff Jeff. :)

It will be flatter than on that Mini right?

Looks to be in between 918 and 920.

Hi George,

I think it will be a bit flatter than the mini, I expect they paint them clear over base. I was thinking exactly the same thing - somewhere between 918 and 920. Vaughn reckons his 920 and this one will look great together, I think they may attract some attention.
