cRAYzed
Hey everyone, My name is Ray - I currently own a japspec pulsar, but eventually want to buy a project 240/260z... I am currently searching for an example that has as clean a body as possible as I dont want to be caught by lots of rust.. I have found one with a small dent and niceish paint - stewart wilkons l26 with injected l28 head that looks appealing, although I am a little worried about its history as I think it was a hillclimb car! Anyway I am going through these forums and finding a crapload of useful information so thanks heaps and wish me luck in my search for my new beast!! -Ray p.s- any tips of places to look would be great, or if you have an old Z that might make a good project that you wanna see go to a good home, shoot me a PM! Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2008 If you're in Melbourne, it might work out well to ask Rob at the Z Factory in Mordialloc. He has the odd Zed for sale now and then. I know he has a 260 station wagon for sale, and a early 240Z for sale soon (chassis #400?) I think hes gonna do some rust repairs, put it together and then offer it for sale....Keep an eye out, ear to the ground and so forth.... HELLFIRE!
The most obvious places to find rust are in the battery area/tailgate/bottom of doors. In the battery area the rust will appear as surface rust, ie it will be obvious. In the tailgate it will grow from underneath the paintwork and may appear as cracking or bubbling. Look for it on the outside below the glass and inside arround the glass. In the doors it will appear as bubbling at the bottom corners. Take a fridge magnet with you when inspecting a potential Z. All Zs will have some level of rust it's just a matter of working out what you can deal with and what you are prepared to fix. Good luck and welcome
