Noticed the deck 240z badge is angled- is that a series 1 thing or a personal touch?

Personal touch.

The angled 240Z badge isn't a "series 1" thing, it's a previous owner thing. I'm not going to bother changing it until I do some paint and panel work on the hatch.

The hatch vents were in the car when I got it. There is various sellers on eBay that have them for sale. e.g http://www.ebay.com....8-/322109877344
Warren from All Z Parts in Hornsby had a set on eBay a couple of months ago. Could try contacting him to see if he has any more, although he has apparently had some health issues and has not been on the job in recent times, so some patience may be required here.

Cheers, not looking for the vents, but for the stainless trim around the tail light holes. I have not seen any for sale anywhere, yet.

Ah....I totally misunderstood.

Never seen just those trims for sale by themselves either. I ended up buying a good complete used set of tail light surrounds from the US which had the stainless trim on them.

That's probably my only option unless they are fabricatable.

I managed to meet up with Adam who restored the Brown Hornet. I got the grey paint sample pot off him.

Will see if we can replicate the magic mix.

So just chatting to the paint guy here at my Tafe course. He told me to ring PPG on 13 24 24 and talk to the folks on the phone and ask for the trim colour used on the hubcaps, grille, rear tail light garnish etc..

If they have the code great if not we will use the sample tin spray it let it dry and then come back following week and use spectrometer to try and determine the exact colour.

Hey Gav.

How did you go with this, any progress? My panel shop is asking for paint codes.

Thanks.

I tried to sign up on their website but they rejected me... I think you need to be a supplier or reseller to get access to their database. I suspect if you're not a paint shop they will fob you off over the phone too.

gav240z:

I have a set of early series 1 hub caps similar to the set you posted pics of on this thread. Have you found a paint color for those or are you just using a flat black?????

It's my understanding they are the same gray, I was given a sample pot of the grey/gray paint a while ago by someone who went to great lengths to get it mixed up. When I went to my technical college (Tafe) I asked about getting a sample. They said I should ring PPG first and tell them it was used on the grille, tail lamp garnish, hubcaps etc.. and see if they have the code for it. They seemed pretty confident they would.

if not they said, we can use my sample pot to spray something up then use a colour spectrometer to analyse it and get a code. I haven't been back to the Tafe course for the past month. It should be starting again soon if nobody has had any luck with this before then.

There is an old Datsun specialist workshop next to my panel shop who has a NOS tail light surround for a 180B that he thinks is the same grey as used on the Z's and the panelshop can match from that.

Ive done a quick google search and cant confirm.... anyone know if they are the same?
