Some pics here worth saving but how is that done? Right click and 'save as' does not work.

If the image opens in the overly, look in the bottom right hand corner. You should see a 'save' icon. Click on that it will open in a new tab and you can right click and save that way.

Why in this photo do all the 240's have black steel rims ? Was it a dealer option to have the alloys put on ?

Hi

Steel rims were the standard fitment. New cars are transported without the hubcaps fitted, avoids them getting damaged

If you do a search on that website search for both 240z and 260z separately.

http://autopics.com.au/

There is a few more photos of cars being raced in period in Australia. There was a couple of Len Brennan's car, I wonder if he's seen them all?

I always assumed Len's car was a 1970 model, but realised from this photo.

There is no vents in the rear hatch! So perhaps his car was 1 of the later 71 models with the Blue interior we already know about? That would be a cool find. Sadly Len doesn't know what number it was. He muttered something about an ex-wife throwing stuff out...   >:D

I also did a search for RX-7 and found some cool photos of early RX-7's in some cool livery.

The ghost busters car is interesting to say the least.

Watch out, Gav. There's are LOADS of miscaptions/mistakes on the autopics stuff that have been uncorrected for ages. Wrong years, wrong events (the above photo is captioned wrong year and wrong event...!) and sometimes wrong crew/car.

User beware...

Good to know, although it's amazing you know what year and event it was from a photo. I guess you know the cars that well.

Some of it is just general knowledge that comes from tracking the movements and fates of the cars involved. There were not any works 240Zs taking part in the 1970 Southern Cross, or the 1971 Southern Cross come to that...

Apart from that, it's perhaps about being more familiar with individual cars through researching the what, where and who over the years.

Shame they weren't circuit raced more in Australia

Agree. But we never had and still don't have race series for sports cars like the Z line which sucks big time. All about sedan racing here, pfffft.

As per the above photo, in the later 70's and early 80's the Nissan Race Team used Nissan Urvans as their service vehicles which had been fitted with heavily modified six cylinder L series motors (they came standard with 4 cylinders) which would out drag many road cars.

Edgar Herrmann and Hans Schuller, driving a Japanese entered Datsun 240z prepare to leave Dar-Es-Salaam at the start of the 20th East African Safari. This team were hoping to achieve a hat-trick, having been outright winners of the safari rally in 1970 and 1971.

NB: The Fairlady Z badge on the fender but the car was described as a "Datsun 240z"...

Awaits Alan's explanation :)

The 70's Mitsubishi galants look pretty cool! Are they price now?

There are hardly any left, they were not only popular as rally cars but also with young drivers - both activities that destroy a lot of cars.

A couple of my mates "tried" rallying in them.

I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road or for sale.
