These look to be HS30 0004 - anyone know the dealer Ira Berk? Was it a Datsun Dealer in Melbourne at the time?

Good chance it is #4.

I believe it is safe to assume Datsun would have used the first couple of cars for all the domestic marketing photography and general media work before onselling them to the dealers.

It is still done this way today.

Cheers

Yes notice how the number plates are missing in the photo of the Ira Berk promotional piece? It's possible the car was taken to Brisbane and the Victorian registration removed for the shoot.

The missus and I said we should recreate the happy balloon couple photos, just gotta find the slacks and a stick on moustache :).

Here is another car, this time 1973 model.

Victorian Registration: LMJ-974

This car was red, found another article featuring the same car.

Interestingly I can chase back a couple of adverts for LMJ-974 to here The Age in 1975.

Brad Boyden Datsun In Essendon (see more details about them here)

DATSUN 240Z, man., red duco, LMJ974. 1 owner, low mlge. $5800. LCT 333. BRAD BOYDEN DATSUN, Mathews Av Airport West. 338 4000

and must have been a typo.

D.itim 2JO Z. Man., red duco. 1 nwnr. low mlge. LMJ 974

Right after that article is the infamous Z432-R article. Which ends rather abruptly, I believe Alan (HS30-H) debunked the myth that it was a 432-R and was in actual fact just a regular PS30 (Z432). See here.
