Pedro
can anyone recommend a place to get hitachis (early round top) carbs tuned in canberra? mine are a bit off song and need some fine tuning, Cheers, peter
nizm0zed
I would suggest calling Canberra Motor Works out in Mitchell and having a chat with them. not sure if they'll be able to do it for you, but they specialise in British vehicles. (the carbies would be very similar) Ray Spence is a smart bloke who knows a lot of the old players around town.
dat2kman
Grasshopper,,,, Sometimes can be as simple as a balance, using a 2' bit of garden hose, and listen alternately at each trumpet mouth, with airfilter base still fitted, , then work on getting them to idle lower by idle screw rpm adjusting, then balance by the bottom underneath large thumbwheel rotating. Bit of back and forth. Does help if throttle shaft seals and bushes are not too worn, dashpots on top have same qty of Singer Sewing machine oil -10 weight,. If running old type dizzy, at high rpm you are getting missing/breakdown, a fresh set of points, and a new condenser, AND a bit of stiffish sponge rubber fitted behind points spring, to stop points bounce, helps at higher rpm's. adam
Hey Peter, this doesn't answer your question but if you're willing to give it a go yourself, I have written a bit of a DIY here on my blog. http://twofortyzee.wordpress.com/2013/07/17/diy-adjusting-valve-clearances-on-an-l28-and-tuning-hitachi-su-carbs/
Pedro
normally i would consider giving it a go. but i have no tools etc (at all!) in CBR and thus am a bit out of sorts in that regard. I think in this instance its wiser for me to pay for the job.
Roady
Dyno Tune - Mitchell!!!!! Grant who works out there is a miracle worker with carb's. He will get your car running better than you thought it could. They used to be in Braddon, and I took the car to him one day when the engine was missing. He stood and listened, pulled the lead of the No. 5 cylinder, no change. Looks at me and says its not firing on number 5. Great guy, willing to have a chat and fair pricing. chris240
Lol....forgot about Grant. He setup my tripples and fabricated a neat linkage setup, tuned , balanced them once and have never missed a beat. Bruce at performance plus was my go to man for su's ....that was before the webers.
