PI - 9 and 10 November - Aust Supersprint Championship

Have put my entry in for the 280ZXT in the road registered class just to have another go at this great circuit after the best forgotten Nationals effort. Nominated 2 minutes as a lap time, no chance of winning anything, just in it for the fun and hopefully some satisfaction. Look forward to meeting any other Zedsters who will be there too. Any suggestions for trailer friendy accommodation? What's the caravan park like?

Gareth, you'll be fine,

You are only racing against a time clock, and only one lap over the whole weekend will count.

You nominate a class/capacity, based on car, if no logbook, you could almost call a S30 "Historic", but i think their Historic Sports/Tourers category will be the logbooked ones. You'll be Road Rag!

Couple years back Warwick Club up here called it the "Australian" S/S Champs, now they call it the Qld S/S champs,

Seems like piarc has jumped on that.

Gunna be a few bigheads now, "i raced at the Australian etc etc" telling us all about it.

It really the Victorian S/S Champs, but interstaters are welcome, just like the other State based S/S champs being held.

All good fun, would like to attend, but, due to other issues, can not make it.

Really looking forward to this, PI is such a mind blowing circuit. The first and only time I'm like, where are the damm apexes, track was so wide that you are spoilt for space, you sort of get lost in space if that makes sense. I mean Lakeside is such a contrast, both it and PI share the fastest circuit in Ozstralya title but there the similarities end yet there is a commonality. Lakeside is tight and potentially destructive and bloody fast and always there, just out the window. PI is open and inviting yet bloody fast and doesn't crowd you yet it's potential for destruction is there too, lurking.

And that is the challenge. To arrive, drive, survive and leave happy.

Supp regs say pairs of cars, with up to 26 on track, wow, busy!

Is that 26 pairs of cars ie 52? the max track density is 55.

Or,

13 pairs, ie 26 cars on track at one time, much safer!

Be a bugger if there is a quick one, and he laps a few backmarkers, they get the chequer flag to signal end of session, and could be a lap, even 2 ( be jolly quick car) down.

Pete Mac, you going to have a go? You'll rustle up a 1.47er car for it, hey!!

I took it to be 13 pairs as it says somewhere

" up to 26 cars on the circuit at any one time".

I'd be interested in sharing a garage, I think I would have died from Hypothermia at the 6 hour relay if I was out in the paddock. Thinking back, we comfortably fitted 6 cars in two adjacent garages for that event.

Hmmm, doctor says no  :(

Have to get a skin cancer chopped off my shoulder, which will apparently involve removing a 3-4cm chunk of shoulder as the skin cancer is 15mm diameter itself. The plastic surgeon doing the job doesn't like the idea of HANS / harness ripping the wound open so not Datsun for up to 6 weeks ::), and also doesn't want me to put it off again (ie wait till after the middle of November).

Apologies, I don't like committing to something then having to pull the pin, but I guess there are some things (like your health) more important than racing  :'( What makes it worse is that this trip to PI was to make up for missing the Nationals at Easter which I had to pull out of due to my father being in hospital.

Lurch - I will still come down with your present, just may be later in November (maybe for a trip to "Island Magic" at PI later in November).

Not feeling that young at the moment, 50 in February, skin cancer (thankfully not melanoma), a visit to another specialist in late November for insertion of a camera where cameras aren't meant to go and just finished putting both parents into a nursing hime with Alzheimers / dementia.

Anyway, hope you all have fun at the Island.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yay, my entry has been accepted so better get some tyres and stuff, booked in at the Koala Park Resort, thanks Dave. Really looking forward to this, hoping to do some sort of respectable time to make amends for the last debacle.
