Lakeside Classic 21-22 July

QR site will have all the details but it's worth noting that Jim Richards and Fred Gibson will be making an appearance with Jim doing some demo laps in the Winfield Skyline, all courtesy of AASA, not CAMS. The Skyline club will be doing an 'evening with' and display too. In my humble opinion this is the sort of event that the ZCCQ should be getting behind, if only to support the Skyline boys who then may feel more inclined to support our club's events.

Yeah, why doesn't the zccq get behind things, no more car shows, no more events, what too risky, or it isn't Zed-eccentric enough.

Anyhow, HRCC is getting behind such events and helping to promote, Jimmy Richards will be guest speaker, and teller of tales of daring do, at the next HRCC club medting.

ALL are wrlcome to rock up,

Date, Monday 22nd July

At Shannons Club Rooms  7pm Montague Dt West End.

They usually lay on a bbq and drinks, plenty of parking , usually a decent turnout, 40-60 people, pkenty to see and talk to!

Bit of a bugger QR management  are charging spectator entry fee for the Lakeside Classic, they usually let spectators in for nothing. Just to let you know!

I believe the 8 historic muscle cars shipped over from NZ will be at this meeting. They are build differently to the aussie cars but the differences sort of level things out.

NZ cars have to be series product body work ie all steel as factory spec. Engine have to be period material aka iron heads blocks but can be up to 12.5% larger and run avgas/racegas so high compression. 15" rims

Oz cars can have fibre glass panels, alloy heads but less compression and limited over boring. 15" rims

So that does level them out a fair bit I lead to believe.

QR management have been charging entry for most events now days, try $30 for a Sunday for a top gear or qdrc race meeting these days. Only free events seem to be sprints.

And for great racing, as alluded to in other posts, the weekend before at Warwick has the HRCC run National historic meet where proper race cars from years gone by will be running, including the group a and c cars as part of their national championship series.

I have already distributed the Skyline Club's invitation to this event to all the Z Car Club members, but it is up to each individual member if he/she wishers to attend.

Also regards the Lakeside Classic it is unfortunate but this is also the weekend that the next session of the Super Sprint "A" series at Morgan Park is scheduled, and I for one don't intend to miss this after such a long gap since the last session. My car is getting very disillusioned and has gone into deep depression.

Regards

Peter

Hey Jason,

You know the ZCCQ is not "zed-eccentric" at all & any remains of that attitude died with NDN09, which was "clearly" a Nissan Datsun Nationals not a zed nationals :)

QR will never miss an opportunity to squeeze the $ out - I think a small entry fee is Ok - but they always seem to want $20/head which puts people off. They would get more food sales if the fee was less & lets face it that is where they would make some $

Come here Peter, we can jack up your radiator cap, and slide a whole new car underneath, that will solve everything, well, maybe not the Comptroller of Finances!!!

Hey Matt, you forgot, HRCC are also charging an entry fee for speccies at MP.

Check their website.

The alakeside Classic also feature the bumper dodgems Group N cars, after their last couple of rounds they have all had a bit of a talking too. Deaf lot they are though!

Yeah, but the entry fee at the HRCC meeting to see proper old race cars and quality racing is worth the dollars, and not as much as other tracks. The $30 a head for a one day meeting at Lakeside with 5 lap sprint races, for most spectators, not so good value in comparison.

Non issue for me for entry costs as I can always get a free pass for whatever I want to see somehow. I can't remember the last time I paid to go to a race meeting......Unless you count entry fees  ;D

Lakeside -v- Morgan Park war? C'mon blokes, MP is owned by a non profit club that no doubt has benefited from taxpayers money in the form of grants in the past. Quite different to a situation where private money pays the lease and the track upgrades etc. We should be grateful we have both and the choices that follow..

No criticism of the ZCCQ from me, long time member and former prez, we do pretty good for a small, specialist club. HRCC? Where is their circuit they apparently have the money for?

No war, just pointing out that a meeting with some of the same cars and a whole heap more is on the weekend before as well.

I have no problems with qr and quite happily take advantage of the opportunities they give me to run the hairdresser car at a very good price through the mx5 club. For example, my next track day will cost $125 for a full day at Lakeside. The only thing that gets hard to take is the cost to watch a day's racing that is at an amateur level and the money is already made from the entry fees.

Thanks for the offer Jason but being a pensioner now I would have problems raising enough money just for the radiator, and if I did mention it to the Controller of Finances the only thing that would be purchased would be my coffin.

Looks like the Norwell Circuit is a no go now because of tighter noise restrictions.

Cheers

Peter

I think noise restrictions are an excuse. MG have held three sprint events at Norwell with no sign of any noise restrictions. I competed at 2 of them, the most recent being Feb this year.

Ahh, Greg, re Norwell, those MG sprints you did were quite some time ago.

The reason for the recent Norwell closure/heavy restriction ( same thing) now, was due to the complex owners son, taking out his V8 SupaTaxi and cutiing fooly seek with very loud hot laps.

Blame Paul Morris!
