Hawkwind
Hi peoples. I have a Datsun 240z. 71. It's in Cairns atm. However i've ripped out the interior and tryin to get new everything. Carpets, vinyls, and my Dash reskinned. There's really not that much to do to the interior on a 240z huh. But yer. I'm looking at going White reskin on the dash and centre console, with blue vinyls and carpet. Dad reckons i'm crazy, and says the guy in Brissy that's doing the job says they don't look good. So they're kinda talking me out of it, but i still don't agree. I've got the picture of it all in my head and to me it's lookin good. But i thought i'd post here n ask you guys what u think of such a radical move. cheers!
mikedoeslife
Haha. Good luck with it mate. I have to agree with your old man and the skinner; it's a bloody horrible sounding idea! But hey, it's your car and you're entitled to your own preferences eh So like I say, good luck and I hope it turns out the way you want. 620Z
Mate I reckon it would look hidious and you will probably devalue your car by 3-4K. What you are thinking is quite unique and most people wouldn't go for it. Sure go for it but don't expect the majority of people to like it. In fact you will probably turn a lot of enthusiest off your car. I know we all like to make our cars nice but we also get some satisfaction when others compliment our cars. So in this case I would listen to your old man and keep the interior neutral. You asked for an opinion so I offer this as a heads up to keep your car looking nice. Cheers
C.A.R.
No offense mate, but wouldn't you be better off doing that to a Commodore???
Administrators gav240z Posted August 10, 2007 Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2007 C'mon guys where's your sense of adventure. I've considered going with a white skinned dash. I reakon it would look good. I'm not sure about the blue vinyls though and I think it will be hard to keep clean. It also depends on the exterior colour of your car if you have a blue, red zed I think a white interior is nice but if it's a darker colour maybe not. If in your head it looks good, go for it I have had ideas before in my head and I have visualised the concept using photoshop. If everyone did the same thing we'd all be boring. Me myself I am considering going with a nice Silver exterior colour on my Z since it was Silver from the factory and skinning my dash in a deep red or burgundy colour with some nice white face gauges. I'll probably reskin my Recaro's to match also in a nice leather. Of course at this stage I don't have the cash put aside for it but I think it would be a really nice look and not too playboy. Simon Degroot went with a lighter coloured interior, not a white skinned dash but lighter seats and carpets. http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2995/article.html Perhaps consider something along those lines? JP240z
sure, do the white dash... but if you make anything unneccessarily blue you will have a lot of questions to answer...

Definately has a supercarish feel, just add white gauges.
koopa
White could look good. It depends on the exterior color and also the carpeting. The picture I have attached is a pretty clean look. This one cost $3,000 US for the entire interior.
sexual_sushi
ive often thought of a white interior but trying to get everything in the datsun to loook good with the white can be hard to figure out... like do you make a custom centere console or keep it black? then tehres the seats black or white and the carpet. then you have to consider door trims and the vinyl in the rear and how this is all going to look in contrast with each other this one looks a bit ricey but if you had different gauges and sterring wheel it would prob be alright this ones more cream but meh... hey zedevan... do you remember where u got those pics from? i'd like to see the progress on that car or any other pics. the tailights/guards and colour look familar. i think ive got photos somewhere on my comp. way too many zed photos to go through :S
zedevan
came across the pics on hybridz in their interiour section, thread was on fabric dashes. if you come across any more pics post them up as it looks dam sexy i rmember saving some pics of another zed that had similar tail lights, but it has wide fenders instead of just flares and also a rear defuser...wouldn't mine seeing more pics of it either
zedrally
All of those pics have missed the one essential..........fluffy dice.... Sorry, but you've totally lost me with a white dash, I possibly have no sense of adventure, nor am I willing to loose $3-4K, but I do have good taste (which none of those have)IMO. koopa
Keep in mind, you have to be SUPER SUPER careful because it can get dirty very easily with a white interior. If your gut feeling says to go for it.... then go for it
sexual_sushi
haha yeah the first one needs fluffy dice and the second one needs neons :S i know what he is after, you know when u go to a car show and there is a nice old torana(?) or something that is a green colour with a snow white interior? it does look good but i just dont know if it is do-able in a zed. ill keep looking, desiging and finding pics on the web but at the moment i cant get the logisitics of it (ie what parts are black and what parts are white) zedevan: i was looking through hybrid last night and i think i found some more pics of that seude dash car.... if i did ill post em when i get home tonight

I understand what you are saying Mike but since when is owning a Zcar about how much money it's worth? Zcars seems to lag behind many other Aussie muscle cars of the same era. haha yeah the first one needs fluffy dice and the second one needs neons :S i know what he is after, you know when u go to a car show and there is a nice old torana(?) or something that is a green colour with a snow white interior? it does look good but i just dont know if it is do-able in a zed. ill keep looking, desiging and finding pics on the web but at the moment i cant get the logisitics of it (ie what parts are black and what parts are white) zedevan: i was looking through hybrid last night and i think i found some more pics of that seude dash car.... if i did ill post em when i get home tonight Yeah I agree it's difficult to find the right balance when it comes to the interior in a Z. Mainly because of the centre console, the globe box, the heater facia and the fact that original ones are so damn expensive now as NOS. I think white is definately a loud colour and not everyone's taste as Koopa said it's difficult to keep clean also. It also depends on the exterior colour of the car. I'd personally like a Biscuit look like many Ferrari's have with the red paint and a burgundy (dark) red with a silver car. The darker red would look more balanced with the black heater panel and console.

sexual_sushi
oh and these... don't like the 2 tone dash (does look like the 300zx styling though) and the anal probe knob looks a lil weird but the rest of it is pretty tidy.
