420BRB
Hey guys, my car was spitting out quite abit so i decided to give it a shot. n play with the carbies. i totally fucked it up ==" now the car seems like its choking out, im not too familiar with the ratio for fuel to air, i think all the attempts to fixing it has made it worse. anyone here know the basics and can help me at least get it running and drivable again, so i can take it to a proper place to tune? more than happy to pay for petrol, your time and a few cold ones. any help would be great! I am located at Canley heights 2166 0426876899
Scoota G
Sounds like a choke is stuck on. Reach up under the carb and see if you can push them/ it back in.
Administrators gav240z Posted February 4, 2014 Administrators Share Posted February 4, 2014 Hey mate, I might be able to take a look for you? I'm in Five Dock. Is your car still running the factory twin S.Us? I have the Ztherapy CDs which contains videos on rebuilding and tuning these carbs which might also help. Administrators gav240z Posted February 4, 2014 Administrators Share Posted February 4, 2014 It also sounds like it might be a fouled spark plug from a mixture that is too rich. Have you checked the spark plugs? What colour are they post a pic if you can?

Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 4, 2014 Which screws did you play with? You may have played with the idle stop which affects the balance.
dat2kman
Gav, the 2' piece of garden hose trick, to get individual idles right, then pull total idle down. Wind mixtures up/down, looking for smoothness. Check dashpots for correct qty oil, and oil, dont want them fluttering or moving too quick. Administrators gav240z Posted February 4, 2014 Administrators Share Posted February 4, 2014 Yeah if I get a look I'll go over them. I have a tool that shows air flow across carbs.
dazzed
It was running badly in the first place, you assumed without a diagnosis, The carburettors, so you play with no idea what you are doing an make it worse than it was to begin with, So now you need an expert to go through everything before they even begin to unfold what you have done an no internet site will make you an expert in 5 minutes , you might get it running better but not well, Save yourself a heep of grief and give it to a zed specialist in your area

(dont touch carbies) the closest place everyone is referring me to is in dee why... given that its 1.5 hours away.. it has to be running quite well to get it all the way there*

Dee Why says it's an hour away from you on Google Maps, but I guess traffic is a factor also. The only way to learn is give it a go, so don't worry I played around with carbs many times and had no idea what I was doing, but slowly you figure it out. Of course thanks to the Internet it's much easier to find info on tuning them than it was 16 or so years ago. What is the F3 by the way? Give me a call 0434 520 498 we can have a chat, might be able to come down this weekend.
Scoota G
Just don't take it down Glen Waverley way, the air quality must be a bit off down there!
andoi
hey bro i have a gunston colortune thingy, i know some folks swear by them and others hate them, i have found it to be pretty good, can lend it to you if you wanna have a muck about with it, i say play heaps, how else do you learn, i am constantly stuffing up stuff in an effort to better understand it, you could always take to a mechanic(there is really good one in hornsby) but where's the fun in that? anyway lemme know i am very busy for the next few days but perhaps we can sort something(you pick up or such) ta
dat2kman
You're in Cabbramatta, it is either DeeWhy ( MIA Engines -Brookvale -James Flett) Or ssSW Motorsport out past Windsor, at Stew Wilkins Either of these are about the nucks duts for Datsuns and Hitachi SU's Easier to get to Stew Wilkins from your place! I reckon MIA may be a fair bit less in cost. Be very explanatory about what it did, what you did, what it does now.
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 6, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 6, 2014 What is the F3 by the way? The F3 is the old name for the freeway that heads north to Gosford & Newcastle, it is now called the M1. You wouldn't use that to get to Dee Why though. Yes, OP, most all of us on here are pretty helpfull, when able, but some are just pita to deal with, and give others the Jimmy Brits!
