gilltech
I have two spare 2-seater original rear window glasses, identical in size, but noticeably different in thickness and weight. Just out of curiousity, is it simply a case of one being a 240 screen & the other a 260? Or was there a changeover at some other period in Zed history? NZeder
Depends on the market the donor car the glass came from in the first place. 260z stuff is as follows General export = 4.0mm thick (ie NZ) Europe export = 4.0mm thick Australian export = 5.0mm thick 240z does not state other than General export = 4.0mm thick there a number of other part numbers for different markets, tint, temperd, heating but no mention of thickness so assume all 4.0mm thick. nizm0zed
is this why it was REALLY hard to install my american market quarter window seals?
NZeder
is this why it was REALLY hard to install my american market quarter window seals? no that glass is the same thickness it is the hatch glass that comes in different thickness for the Australian market. gilltech
You're right on the money NZeder, one screen is 4mm & the other 5mm. So the latter must be ex an Aussie delivered car, 25% thicker & heavier. Thanks for the clarification. Do similar rules apply to the front screens? NZeder
Do similar rules apply to the front screens? OEM no all 6.0mm thick however I believe there is some aftermarket screens that are 7.0mm thick. Does that help John
gilltech
Thanks for the info. Interesting that Australia required a thicker rear screen. It may only be 25% but feels far more. Sorry, but I have another question : Regarding glass tint (overall tint) - my NZ-delivered '74 260 has pale blue tinted glass; was that standard or an option? I've seen 260s that look to have clear glass, but then glass can be deceptive in certain lights. A forum thread some time ago indicated that only the very early 240s had clear glass & all the Zeds that followed had pale blue. But is that correct, or only correct for Australia? mossy
Can anyone clarify this last post as I have two sets of door glass and qtr window glass, one is clear and the other in a pale blue, not sure which to use on my 71 240z build
NZeder
Again depends either were installed on the 240z default was clear tempered and option was tinted tempered. So go for the look you want.
mossy
Thanks Mike, just had a look at my rear glass and realised out of the 4 I have they are all clear, might have to keep an eye out for a tinted one to match the side tinted glass.
