Very off topic but.....

I have just got my first proper job.....good firm etc...but it is in Sydney....where I have never lived, nor have any of my family or friends....

so the question is:

Where is a good place to live? (that's affordable but nice (do they go together?))

travelling to the CBD for work.....but (ideally) want a garage/secure parking for the Zed as would be a shame to leave in Melbourne.

Looking at renting.

I live in Erskineville and their asking $800 a week for a 2 bedroom house without a garage.

Thats 5 mins from the city.

My mate lives in a 1 bedroom flat in homebush and his paying 450 aweek with a car space..

There are cheaper places out there but your getting out there an hour or so out west..

Try Moonee Ponds and commute!!!  Or better still try somewhere like Riddell's Creek, where you could build a huge shed and enjoy your time off and your family could stretch their legs a little.

The most livable city in the counrty or sin city????

Depending on far you want to travel and for how long will depend on where to live.

As an original Sydneysider, well out tnear Penrith, If you are prepared for a 1 to 1 1/2 hour commute the Lower Blue Mountains is a pretty good place to live, having grown up in Glenbrook I would be a bit biased.

Rents seem to still be affordable for a 3 bedroom place with garage and the lifestyle is pretty good, far enough from the city to be away, but close enough to get there for work.

If I was retruning to Sydney I would look at the Lower Mountains as an affordable choice, or Northern Beaches as a money no object Choice.

You could also look at the Shire, or a bit further South down around the Northern Illawarra, such as Bulli, Thirroul, though I haven't been down that way for a few years, so the areas might have changed sinced I lived there for a summer on the beach.

I have lived in and around epping my whole life.

We are about 45 mins from the city on an average day, far enough out that you can get a house with a lock up garage for rent @ about $600 p/w

easy drive to out west, north and there are shops and train station close by for a 20 min train ride to the city.

in my opiniopn, its far enough out to not be in the city, and close enough not to be a pain to get to the city.

I have a 3 bedroom brick house, with a lock up separate garage, and I am paying 490 a week in rent.

I have a few friends in the area with various combinations of house/garage @ around the same price.

hope that helps

Thanks Guys.....have months for the hunt and still working on the budget.

Happy with unit's so long as have secure parking.....hoping (but possibly not realistically) to be close'ish to the beach, as I have grown up by the sea and tend to run and swim a fair bit.

I lived in Manly for a few years & I used to catch the ferry or jetcat to the city... was the best way to arrive to work  ;D ;D

try considering a place close to a ferry point perhaps.
