Well fun & games last Sun, as promised I'm posting how pouring of hinge boot mould went, long story short the mould needs modifying to prevent tearing of newly cured rubber, but boot looked spectacular however it wasn't quite complete which means an improved pouring hole (sprue) is required also....it's coming along, I'm pretty excited about yet another Datsun rubber (set in this case) about to become reality

Excellent - I am pleased there are people out there like your self with the knowledge and ability to help get a NLA part available again. I am sure you could sell many on ebay to guys in the USA too.

And to think that I started out just making a set for own Zed, I was prepared to go to all the trouble of making a set of moulds for my two boots only 'cause they're holding me up from finishing the rear part of the car, I want to get the hatch door on and then move on to other things like doors and front guards, hope I get there!. The car has always been a long term project though

Pete

PS in some months to come I'll start a project thread in Project forum, gotta clean up garage first for good pics

Up date on progress of hinge boots....

Modification to first mould is finished, works fine and I've actually made 3 boots so far but all have
defects of one sort or another, that's not unusual for first 2 or 3, the only remaining problematic issue
is the pouring technique...manually pouring is causing unacceptable air bubbles so I'm going to try pressure
injection using a simple throwaway plastic syringe...no rude comments now

I placed the least defective boot in the car and it fits perfectly, so I'm happy about that

The second mould has been started

So what is this hatch hinge rubber you all speak of? Anyone have picture to share? What is its purpose? I couldn't find a pic on google images...

Interesting... thanks for that. Mine are long gong.

Does the seal protect the hinge only from the elements or does it also help stop fumes entering the cabin?

Put me down for a set as well when available.

Further to Veloce's original query above, I too am mystified, as I've seen a fair few 240s & early 260s in bits in my time but have never seen any 'hinge rubbers'. Were they added by Nissan to the later 260s? I know that the rubber seals on the body shell were revised at some point.

The rubbers are not even noticable in the first picture, they hide right up in there and often have overspray on them. Next time i'm at Dales i'll take a picture of the hole it came out of.

I'll save you the trouble Scoot....

The first pic shows the cavity where the hinge fits in....the second pic shows how the boot fits (I've used one of the defective reject boots  :-[,
just out of the mould the other day, notice there's no bolt holes yet)....the third pic shows the boot reinforcer.... the forth pic shows the hinge

The boots keep water out
