"Z" Register
« on: September 11, 2009, 05:59:46 PM »
Hi all,

Just a though, when I first joined this forum one of the first things I did was to register my "Z" on the W.A. register as requested, thing is 5 months later nothings happened, my details still havnt appeared, so I was thinking why dosnt this forum keep one ?

Stupid idea maybe, but seems the boys in W.A. have lost interest in theirs.

Craig (Mr Camouflage) maintains W.A Zcars, not sure why the details haven't appeared yet. I thought it was run by a database which should mean the details should appear automatically. Maybe there is an issue with the database?

I've considered adding a registry here, but I figured there was no need to have 2. I didn't want to come across as competing with WA Zcars.

Here are the main reasons I did create a registry.

1.) There already was an established 1 at W.A Zcars
2.) I had planned to migrate to a new Content Management System and figured it was easier to wait until the new content management system is ready.
3.) I wasn't sure if members wanted 1 or found it useful.
4.) There is already data in the WA Zcars DB. So if Craig doesn't want to maintain it anymore I'd be happy to import the data (provided he is happy to hand it over, into a new registry).

Some features that would be available.
1.) Sort by type: S30, RS30
2.) Sort by colour
3.) Sort by whatever you want really
4.) The entry in the database could be tied back to a member name

Before I can do this.

1.) I need to migrate the gallery content to the new CMS.
2.) Migrate the forum content to the database.

So in a nutshell that's why.

Gav,

I do a lot of MS Access data base development for work, if I could create one, could you upload it?

Cheers

P.S. Re the false info, if one was set up here, think each member uploading would need to post a pick of the compliance/production plates ?

Hi Guys.  I do run the registry for the WA Z Register car club of WA, when time permits.

I've been really busy lately trying to start up a business, and writing alot of software for that, so I've been neglecting the wazregisters website a bit. Along with looking after ozdat.com, I don't have alot of free time.

Rest assured that all your cars info is in the database. I've just gone through and made all the new entries visible. It's not a simple process (not as simple as it should be if I had more time to develop the register software more).

I agree with Gav, that having 2 registers is not required. If anything ever happened to the wazregister website (the club folded or whatever) I'd still have a copy of the data that I'd happily share with Gav if he wanted to host it here, but untill that happens I don't think 2 registers are necessary.

I do have plans to update the register software as time permits, now that the website is on a new host, and things are working again as they should.

No worries. I was supposed to get email reminders when a car is added to the register, but because the last hosting company the site was with were a bunch of  :-X (better not say) all the emails stopped working. Now that I think about it, I haven't had an email reminder for at least a year.
