Nice job, sounds good. Miss the induction noise!
Funny how a 1 hour job turns into days. I myself hated the thought of pulling the motor again for the 4th or 5th time and supported the motor from the struts and dropped the cross member to get the pan off last time.
So to ask a silly question.... I am sure I have seen paint inside motors that Pete has built, is there a purpose and is it something special (2 pak epoxy or something) yet he pulled back on the pan paint.
I had my headers HPC coated and although expensive, does reduce temperature of the pipe if your worried.
Go the orphan (280zx) lover.

I remember reading about painting the inside of the engine blocks as it helps also seal in any loose sand from the casting process and makes the surface a little more "slick" so any oil goes back to the pan quickly.. Hope my memory isn't failing..

In regards to the painting of inside the block, as Dimitri and Peter stated.
It creates a smoother surface that is sealed, when the right product is used.
I listened to the advice given by the Bozo's at the auto parts store. Luckily Peter got me to take it off. Even during the cleaning process afterwards, I put some petrol inside the sump and it melted the crappy engine enamel and turned it into a gooey sludge. You wouldn't want that going through the engine  >:(

I was over at dads place last night and stuck my head in the garage at his Scuderia 280ZX.

I noticed it had the extractors that are needed for the new race motor, 3" pipe too. Now all I need to do is convince him to swap the exhausts over  ;D
Also, he took me for a drive in their new Winabago. Its pretty sweet.
Think we've got our new tow vehicle to the race meets   8) (just have to convince mum)

Just got home from Xmas in Darwin and read this Simon. Dont think there's much chance she will let us use it as tow vehicle.
We might be able to swap extractors, lets see how it goes first.

Jeebus
It's been a while since the last update  :o

Took the Z to Winton in Jan for an MSCA event and Vic Super Sprint championship and won my first motorsport trophies, in class D (classic)  8)
Sure, there was only 1 other person to beat. It just happened to be my dad, in the same car. But I did it by beating my previous best time by 4 seconds and dads best by a tad over 6  ;D

What I did discover is that there is still lots of work to do to the car.
I had some corner exit speed problems due to 2 main things.
1- Lack of camber on my front suspension geometry
2- Flat spotting @ around 3,500rpm
oh and
3- the driver could be better  ::)

So what do I do to combat this? That takes me to Lakes Entrance, where I was holidaying with my family a few weeks back.
I get a call from Benny and his discovery on eBay, of a new listing of tuned headers/extractors. Buy it now price. Done!  ;) They had been on for half an hour before I was talking to the guy about delivery.
As it turns out. These are a Peter Hall designed set, for a tarmac rally car using stock internals and triple 45mm Weber's. Punching out 270hp. SCORE  ;D But they were a bit too large in the ports for that car..... But mine is an L30, so perfect!

Also at the last meet at Sulio's factory. Meet up with imackz (Iain), who mentioned he was upgrading his suspension. His current set up was firmer than mine, so arranged to grab that off him and try it in my car.

So as it sits now..... My Z is now looking like it normally does. Up on stands, wheels off, suspension removed, carbs and exhaust off!  :(

I think that I need to look into some adjustable LCA's too. Does anyone have some 280ZX units they are willing to part with?

Oh...... And the new pipes would have avoided the entire winged sump without needing modification.  >:(

I match ported the extractors to the head using marking blue and a die grinder.
Also used the same techniques to match port the gasket........ which took well over an hour to do right!  :o
Just keep that in mind folks, if your paying guys to do the work for you. It sounds simple, but takes a lot of time to get right!

There are 3 x O2 bungs in the secondaries.
I have the O2 for the wideband in the single pipe, so it gets all the data from all the ports.
If need be I can trouble shoot via the other 3.
