Which External Mirror
« on: November 12, 2007, 08:47:03 PM »
Which external rear vision mirror should my 260Z have.  Is it like the chrome 240Z or is it a plastic pointy nosed oned sort of like an XA-XC Falcon?

Should be the same as the 240z. anything else is aftermarket, or from another car. (unless you have 280Z US spec mirrors, which would still be incorrect for a Aus car).

i'm 90% sure mine had the factory mirror on it and the main body of it was black with a chrome standoff, not particually pointy though. i think alot get changed to 280zx mirrors and other 80's cars?

Hmmm, that looks like a holden mirror, possibly torana or kingswood.

May I suggest Mazda MX5 electric mirrors. That is what I used and they came up fantastic. Bit expensive though. A cheaper way to go is the early Mazda RX7 mirrors electric. They were my second choice. Can get then easily at the wreckers for maybe $100- or less.

Hi

The classic ones mentioned above by Yellazed are covered in this thread. Seriously considering them myself.

What about these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-240Z-260Z-STAINLESS-DOOR-MIRRORS-PAIR-NEW_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140707QQihZ018QQitemZ280171790717QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD2V

Allegedly original style.

I think the UK may have had different style mirrors. Not too sure about them either way.

Aussie Z cars all had the 240z style mirror on the drivers side only. Which is why so many got replaced with a pair of after market generic mirrors.

I sourced a genuine left hand zed mirror from the US for around $150 to match the right hand side.......only to keep the original look.

As per Craig's comment....I do think the MX5 mirrors do look the best on a modified Zed.....maybe becuase I have an MX Roadster Coupe as my daily hack ;D

Funny thing about the LHD US mirrors. They are the same as the RHD mirrors, with the mirror rotated 180 degrees, not a true mirror image copy of a RHD mirror.

Of course the Yanks think there RHD mirrors mounted on the LH side of the car is how they were supposed to be. They stick out further then when mounted on the LH side of the car, due to the base being slightly angled. They complain that there was no mirror image mirror, and that its too close to the window when mounted on the (LHD passenger) right side of the car. Which is how it normally is when on a RHD car.

Has anyone managed to track down a factory original RHD mirror? I'd buy one if I could find one but have no idea where to find one.

I have a set of bullet mirrors (very 60's) very sexy but not sure if I'll mount them. If I cannot find a factory mirror then I will.

Which external rear vision mirror should my 260Z have.  Is it like the chrome 240Z or is it a plastic pointy nosed oned sort of like an XA-XC Falcon?

The XY falcon style tear drop mirror looks excellent on an early Zcar FWIW.

The LHD mirrors you can get from the USA, places like datsunrestore.com, are factory RHD mirrors.

There is no LHD Drivers side mirror, there are RHD mirrors, which were mounted on the drivers side of whatever market they were sold in.

LHD mirror = RHD mirror. They all have the same part number.

Guys

There is a definite difference between the right an left mirror, I used to have a stock right hand mirror mounted on the left which stuck out miles as it is reversed and the angle of the arm is wrong (as per the picture of Mr Cammo's Zed). I recently bought a left hand mirror from the US and it is a "real" left hand mirror...ie. it sits on the same angle as the right mirror............When viewed from the front the mirrors now are exactly "mirror:" images with the same mounting angles.
Check on the US Ebay site and you see Zed mirrors come up quite often (LHS only)

Hope this clarifies things

cheers- Alan
