I have bid a few times from different seller in Japan using a proxy service there a many around - or if you know someone living in Japan.

Anyway I spotted a few of these some months ago - keep getting out bid all the time - they are going for around $1000 AUD at the end of the Auction - I think I have see 8 get sold so far. I have an Electric power steering unit in the UK that I need to ship back to NZ so I can have a go at making one my self the trick from the research I have down is getting the correct wheel speed sensor to tell the ECU you are moving fast enough and that power assist is not longer required.

a grand is pretty steep...

...but after just getting my z back on the road after 6 months absence due to my laziness, i've become a big girl used to the ease of throwing around cars with power steering, hahah.

anyone have a clue as to how well these would work/any local sources?

Thanks for the heads up on that site in Bayswater "Aegean" I might do some investigation on that one. I know these are pretty new inovation but it could be an easier instal as long as I could be convinsed on the speed sensitivity issue. Plus less taxing on the power which is always a goo thing. Would save a lot of mucking around with steering racks etc. I am also guessing not cheap. I will let you know what I find.

I know - this is a VERY old thread, however my search found nothing new on the same 'electric steering" subject.

Looking into options to lighten up the steering on a Z.

My research has led me to all sorts of places, however the easiest conversion would appear to be electric.

This particular post was interesting.  Is there some sort of "pre-fabricated" conversion kit that utilises an electric motor from a Barina/Corsa?   This under-dash style conversion appeals to me.

Does anyone have further info?   Apparently someone in Japan was selling these already made up for the Z, but my initial look into Yahoo.co.jp yielded nothing like that.

This thread brings the words "Prius" "Fly by wire" "Cambus" to mind all of which spell some sort of drama at some stage of a modern cars life, stick to Ol'School, just my opinion dont take offense.

Look - in an ideal world - old skool power steering would be great.  That is if I had a garage and space to work in and get it all together.   I am tooled up, but since moving in with my GF - have nowhere to work (prob won't for some time either).  Going old skool is a pretty big job in anyone's book - definitely need working space.

So - a "bolt in" steering solution that might help me get the missus in the car without complaining certainly is attractive to me.   

Definitely like to give it a go anyway.

hmmm I am very interested in this topic. I have the standard power steering rack in my white 280zx. But I don't have space to mount a pump on the V8. So I have been considering the electric option. This would allow me to mount it anywhere I can find space.

Stay clear of the GM products though. Apparently they are the first item to implode on the Corsers and Astras etc. Mazda run one as well (2s and 3s I think) so I would opt of one of these but they are around $600 just for the pump
