« on: February 05, 2012, 07:57:52 AM »
Need to be pointed in the right direction for a 6 speed manual transmission to go behind a twin turbo efi v8 chev which will be put into a 260z. Can anyone help. This project is in the planning stages.

There's a couple of guys running LS1s on here, maybe have a look at their project threads?

All that power?
You'll need to go to a Holinger sequential ex V8 supataxi box.
Big budget build, the box will set you back arounf $25,000
Current spec Supataxis box is the same no ,atter id its a Fud or a Hildan

Why not use a Tremec T56? They're strong, and you can only hook so much power up in a light car like a 260Z, so even if you go to double throw-down super whammy turbos and make 9,847 RWkW, the box only gets loaded up to the point where the wheels break traction, which will be almost all the time with a TT Chev.

Cheers, Jamo

Agreed

If you look at my thread you will see I have shown the dimensions of the T56 sitting in the tunnel and also a pic hijacked off Hybrid of a T56 in position behind a LS1 conversion.

Probably the best box for your buck as far as not having to mod the tunnel.

Cheers

I like your thinking ' more HP ' , one set of items that u will need for sure are atleast 14 inch width 4 stud rear rims and tyres , when u find some , contact me so I can get some ..goodluck with this build
Make sure u do a expenses running account so we can see how much this beast will cost .
Remember to budget for strengthening of chassis etc etc ...I wish I had your funds to do this
I run a T56 behind my LS1 no probs. so far, but my engine only develops 335 rear wheel hp
One thing I have found .That ,when racing, the T56 can't handle fast gear changes .It will lock u out of gears, so a go steady approach is needed

Put a 4.3 diff in im using 6th now on highway cruising 120 km 1800 revs and was into 5th at symons plains with still more to come but that was powercruise so couldnt do a full speed run

The Euro tarmac classic rally guys, in their old Mk2 Ford Escorts, are mounting the Focus/volvo 5cylinder turbo motor in a north south config, and mating tnese to sequential 6 speed boxes, and 5.1 ratio diffs, using 13 x8" rims with open grooved slicks. Wild bits of kit, some are putting out 400hp at flywheel.

One of these hybrid things in a Mk1 Escort shell ran at the 2011 Alpine rally.
Dunno who or what makes the box, but it would have to be half eay close to what you're trying to achieve.
I do not tbink thay have a high enough torque rating

Have a look at the National Sports Sedan forums, some of those guys are into the big units
