Newbie hello from a non owner ...yet
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:49:42 PM »
Hello there

Always an admirer since I got to read about the downfall of my childhood dream, the E-type as a kid.

Reignited interest since moving down under from Blighty which is one day going to see me land a Zed.

Top site and as has been mentioned, super friendly.

Loving the Zeds, I see two 240's on Lygon Street here in Melbourne regularly (met blue & yellow) which always get me drooling.

Two on ebay today stirring my interest. Practical Worzel says 260 2+2 auto (guidance on their reliability appreciated), impetuous Worzel head say 240.

Cheers

Hello!
Two ways, get whatever takes your fancy, be prepared to be a little bit exasperated in its restoration/rebuild etc,,, or,, wait a bit, take your time, save a few dollars while doing so, and get a very good one, then make it the way ypu want it.
Either  way, you'll be sure to enjoy
I just race old datsuns:
Group S Historic 280Z ( not a zx but a USA 280z)
Group O/T Historic Datsun Sports 2000
Group G Datsun 120y  with FJ24 fitted( ex G. Fury)
Marque Sports Datsun Fairlady 1966 -SR20DET

Welcome to Melbourne, don't forget the humble and sometimes overlooked 280zx...

Welcome dapper, I have both cars, the 240z  5 speed is by far the fun car of the two,and is the more collectable hence you will pay a lot more for one, The 2+2 auto was a nice car to drive, but my wife found it too hard in the steering compared to the 240z, both cars I had no problems with mechanically and I am a hard driver as the wife keeps telling me you are not on a race track, the down side to both cars and why they are not driven now is rust and both cars were bogged up over rust.

Welcome.

They both have their pros and cons, 2+2 is great for a young (small) family but hard to beat the allure of the 240. Suggest you get one of each.

Buy what the pocket can afford.
Regardless of what type of Zed you end up with............ you will love it, if you don't, it will grow on you.
Rust is king in Zeds so when you finally purchase the car of your dreams, deal with it as a long term project, as that is the car you have now purchased to put your own stamp of improvements/restoration upon on but I repeat think long term both purchase and ownership with your love affair. Get bus like Lynton and me, It is great to go on a run and have two mates with you to share the experince. You will get the same looks from other people of the road in a  bus as a two seater.  8)
