at least getting busted on a forum isnt as embarrasing as having your mum walk in on you while 'vacuuming your room'  :o :P

Oh yeah i've been busted by my mum thats much worse. I slammed the door on her as she came in unannounced. The door hit her face so she started yelling and crying, so I yelled "f*** off im masturbating!"

We laugh about it now, for my last birthday she gave me a card that said "every time you masturbate, god kills a kitten"

Your poor Mother Saxon....

Good question Mr Tennis, I't will be intersting to see what happens in the next 5 years with HSV Commodores and EB etc Gt's, with no REAL race history will there prices go up, or just be like a XY Fairmont compared to an XY GT? That pride of owning the toughest car in town..doesn't exist with these car's like it did, say  the day after Bathurst 1971 and owning a Phase 3.  Owning a Phase 3 you still had the 'Toughest' car in town well into the 90's! For me seeing an Evo10 or a R35 GTR driving around evokes that same feeling...dont mess with it! As for a 350/370Z they wont be a collectors car...why would they? You'd buy one for the wife but they are hardly a car that evokes passion. If Nissan build a 1100kg 500hp road reg'd special that won the Bathurst 12 hour and beat the 4wd's in Targa I'd want one, and so would you and your kids. But then again turning up to a Clubday in 2030 with you $1000 beater 370Z and beating the Evo17's will be a hoot!
Another 240Z saved from the restorers....

The topic is looking into the future not dwelling on the past lol.. although of course I'm somewhat responsible for turning this thread into some kind of bastard child. My apologies to the original poster but you wanted philosophical and look where we are now!

Well in 1973,

New a Datsun 240Z was $4950
          MGB                   $3525
          TR6                    $5218

39 years later the 2012 Redbook values them @

1973 Datsun 240Z         $9,000 -   $13,500
1973       MGB               $7,000 -   $11,500
1973       TR6                $11,000 - $16,400

My dad bought one of the yellow 35th anniversary 350z with incredibly low klms (about 2 or 3k I think?). He loves it to bits and is maintaining it so that he can hand down a low klm 350z to me someday. I keep telling him it won't be worth anything so he should just drive it and enjoy it now, but he said he does love it and it just makes it special when he takes it out for the odd sunday drive here and there.

Perhaps there will be some value in an "original" low klm 350z as many have crazy body kits and get modded etc. but I don't expect it will ever be worth more than what he paid for it. I think the shape of the actual design has a big part to play, as it has to date well. The fact that the 350z doesn't look like every other car on the road will help, but that doesn't mean it will still look good in 10,20 or 30 years. However I still look forward to the day that I get an umolestered pearl yellow 350z with less then 50 000 klms on it.

With all things "retro" you need a certain amount of time to pass to appreciate them again. I think boxy cars from the 80's are just starting to look kind of cool again whereas I couldn't stand the look of the z31 when I first got my 260z. However I believe the point about popular or dream cars from peoples youth are the ones that become the collectible cars once that generation matures, and then I guess they lose value once that generation gets on. I am always surprised at how cheap restored cars are from the 1920's-1950's. But then again you have some of the mercs and Aston martins and BMW's that are worth hundreds of thousands. It seems that most of these are tied to either the scarcity of them and/or the racing pedigree behind them.

I suppose things like the r32/33/34 skylines will become a collectable as they have that kind of 'legend' status in peoples mind for whatever reason. I personally don't like the look of them and never have. But I think they have that tough, almost myth like reputation that people will want to relive one day. Again trying to find one that hasn't been horrifically modified will probably help increase the price of them.

For me, I don't ever plan to sell my 240z, I've heard far too many stories of regret for that to happen.

Hahahaha that is by far the best post ever on this forum. We need to do yearly awards or something ;)

Perhaps a view of what future classic car ownership will be like?

Personally, I think it's great. We get to keep the experience of the classics but bring them into the 21st Century. Maybe some day it will be the only way to own an S30?

Whoever did that to a 2000GT deserves a kick in the teeth in my opinion. Weight penalty, performance penalty (acceleration anyway) AND they aren't even using their fancy JBL sound system to reproduce the classic sound!

I could almost live with that if they used hydrogen or a parallel hybrid instead of solar... But that makes me mad.

in 2030 i aim to have my datsun 260z 2+2 on the road.

Personally, the 350z doesnt do alot for me, i dont find it to attractive at all. Im 26 but do prefer the older cars i.e the 70s stingrays, the 65-69 'stangs, the chargers, the 73 camaro. The only 'new' or 'modern' day cars to appeal to me are the jag xj220 and the 911.

From my view id says the 911 will be around forever since its a beautiful car which doesnt need to change to attract all ages to it and i like the way the camaros are going.
In 2030, how many Datsuns would actually be around?
