Hello again,
i am regreasing the car - have a grease gun in my possession.
I have managed to find 2 grease nipples per side in the front of the car (totalling 4 in the front). bottom of a suspension arm and strut. Are there any there i am missing?
There is one on the steering rack (at least on mine there is…)
Anyway the two on the LHS were fine. took in grease , the excess comes out when there is enough in there.
The other two are not taking. basically refusing to take in grease with a lot of force being put through the trigger of the gun. there must be a form of blockage - so i took out one nipple cleaned it, tested it, put it back in and i still couldnt get grease to go into the darn thing.
Its pretty black in there (10 years at a guess since new grease has been applied)
Carefully lift the rubber boot, and then try to soak the old grease in oil or Metho, etc. After which turn the steering back and forth to help try to break up the old grease. Last resort - Compressed Air powered grease gun?? Might blow the rubber boot apart if they have perished though.
I am yet to look in the rear but am led to belive there are no grease nipples? is this right? half shafts etc?
cheers,
Peter
The original universal joints in the factory half-shafts are greaseable, just remove the small (M7??) bolt and screw in a long grease nipple. Fill ‘til grease starts coming out the seals, remove the nipple and replace the small bolt. Repeat at both ends of each half-shaft.
The uni joints in the tailshaft can also be greaseable.
That’s about all I found on my 240Z…
