280ZX EFI into L26
« on: January 13, 2012, 09:04:57 PM »
Hello guys,

I've recently purchased an EFI assy from the member bullzed here on the forums and was wondering what it takes to install this?

If possible, can a forum member please give me a quote if they are able to do the installation via PM or simply suggest me some recommendations to take it to a knowledgeable person who can do the install.

Kind Regards,
Sam Gungormez

The biggest thing you'll have to.do.is get.the injection fly cuts done to your head. Peter MAC will be able to sort you out. Spend a few dollars getting that sorted and all will be sweet

what PZG was saying is there may not be notches for the injectors in your head. If they are not there the head will have to come off and be notched i believe.

What head is on the L26?
If it is marked e88 i think they are notched already? You could have had a head swap done by previous owners??

The British "Jag?" SU's if they are HS6 model at 1 3/4 inch are worth little, but if they are HS8 at 2 inch they are worth a fair bit.

The old school suck through turbo guys love them!

They are the 2inch HS8's.

Is it worth doing the EFI conversion over these old school carbies? Performace and Fuel Economy Wise?

If EFI is only going to produce less than 10% power/economy, then I'd say its not worth it

Efi with a aftermarlet ecu, a xf falcon tb, a proper tps unit, stock afm, vl commo turbo injectors, will be infinitely better than 2" heavy breathing su's, with their midrange stumble you are probably getting.

Efi will be better tunable all through rpm range, more fuel efficient, better driveability.
It will cost ypu though for initial setup.

The hs8s are prob worth around $400 to $500 a pair,  the stock manifold would have been opened out to suit the 2" bores

Whats the efi setup gonna cost? Dunno, othets can chime in hete?
Ecu basic approx 1000
Iinjrctors, couple hundred
Xf falcon tb, approx 100 s/hand
You got some stuff off Zac?
Wiring it up??
Fuel pump, lift pump, surge tank?
Adjustable fuel press reg?

I take it the current su manifold is still on the car?
If so, on the other side of the head, between no 1 and  no 2 spark plug area, will be "Nissan" and a number/letter.

What is the number/letter?

This will tell us which head, and those that know, will be able to tell you if it already has the injection notches cut out into the head inlet ports.
This helps a lot!

That should be the injection head??
As per the thread on cylinder heads in the Engine category on here.

The efi manifold is held onto the head by the exhaust bolts/washets underneath, and four larger bolts on top.
The su manifold is held on up top by more smaller bolts.
Check out the pics in the head thread for N42.
You wont know what you have till you unbolt it!
