Check out the AtlanticZclub website.
You'll find a few tricks there, but basicall, The stock ECU is not tunable.

Factory ecu is getting old, main issue is knowing what does what, the values of components, and which way you need to go to change things. In short, dont bother, instead try bigger injectors, and combine with variable resistors in the afm temp circuit, and the water temp circuit to clip the pulse rates. They work on group fire, by altering/reducing pulse amount with bigger injectors you can sort of alter fuel delivery, combine with a decent camshaft, good exhaust system, they can be made to work ok. I have stumbles in mine at approx 4000 rpm, but above that to 7800 it is all good.
Other issue is the intake plenum flows different cfm air down each runner front to back, resulting in lean outs and burnt pistons. Intake needs to be airflowed and matched cfm per runner
A decent fuel pressure reg helps too.

Otherwise, just buy a aftermarket ecu,,,,,, i am selling a Autronic sm4, brand new, $2100
I just race old datsuns:
Group S Historic 280Z ( not a zx but a USA 280z)
Group O/T Historic Datsun Sports 2000
Group G Datsun 120y  with FJ24 fitted( ex G. Fury)
Marque Sports Datsun Fairlady 1966 -SR20DET

thanks mate but aftermarket ecu stuff is a bit out of my price range. ill play around with trim pots on the water temp sensor and have a go at puting a cressida afm in and see how it goes, just for the fun of it.

Delco (Holden/GM) ECM conversions have been done with great success. ;) Tunable and reliable.

Intimately. ;)

However, my hands on, is with North American products, which differ slightly from the Australian counterparts.

There is at least one Australian Delco conversion though. Now, they did a few things differently than I did, and I think it was more to use what they had around. http://delcohacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=998
The 280Z Dizzy can be used to trigger a GM Delco ICM (Ignition Control Module), which is how I did my initial conversion, mostly because I ran out of time to get the DIS on, before Zfest that year, I got it running the day before, then drove it about 150 KMs round trip with a very rough tune! It drove fine though, just need some work to get it better (and lock out the dizzy  :-[ ).

that looks like fun, i like how they got the crank position sensor going. might consider having a crack at it later down the track.
