Always a good addition to any L series engine. Make an offer of around $1k and it should be yours.

Is it normal for a half shaft to just fall out as if nothing is holding it in? I have never had one apart so i am un sure what holds them in. but i have never seen one just fall apart like this one

There should be a locking ring on the end of the shaft, there is a machined groove just before the end of the axle where it sits. (part no. 18)
This matches in with the spider gear in the diff centre to locate and retain the axle spline in the correct depth/position.
Sometimes they get worn out and compressed right in, allowing the axle to come loose easily. Bending it out slightly to give it some tension is a suitable fix, however replacing it is a lot smarter.
Any driveshaft workshop should have boxes of them, you'll probably find that nissan used the same size retainer ring on 90% of its cars for the last 30 years.
I wouldnt expect to pay more than a dollar or 2 for one.

I figured that is wat the grooves in the axle splines are for.
Thanx for the reply

The parts are starting to arrive slowly.

Front spoiler is care of Allzparts and I managed to get some triples :) complete with manifold, trumpets, filters and linkages

I'm just in the process of cleaning all the suspension bits and repainting, thanks to Mick for taking everything out.

All I have to do now is to figure out how to get my engine off the trailer on to the engine stand with out using a engine crane or any other lifting device,

I may have to macgyver up some sort of awesome machine, ----- que the theme music....

Thinking of jacking up the trailer to match the engine stand height, how could that end badly

Perhaps you should hire an engine crane if you don't  feel the need to buy one. Most hire joints hire them out
