Take some photo's of Catalina Park while you are there, please?

Lurch
I had a good read of the thread....looks very sad. Its caught somewhere between the indigenous custodians , Local Council & a handful of ex catalina racers who want to see it "tidied"up & weeded  :(
Im keen to drive along it for Nostalgia sake...can someone give me directions  ::)

Red Hill St... Park in the unsealed carpark of the Katoomba Sports and Aquatic Centre, it is at the exit of The Tunnel of Love and adjacent to the beginning of the start/finish straight. I'm not sure that there is any legal vehicular access to the actual circuit.

The circuit is in such poor condition these days, that a complete lap is not possible :(
And if you did manage to drive on it, the local police would not be very impressed...

Merriexesmas madz!
Im glad to say i raced at Catalina in the mid 80's as rounds of the NSW CAMS Speed Event Championship were held atthete in 84, 85 & 86. I won my class in my old orange Datsun 1600 , got a couple of pics of me exiting rhe "tunnel of love" onto the straight in frint of the pits.

Even better, my Datsun Sports 2000, driven by its original owner, David Mingay, won outright, races thete in late 60's early 70's, in the little Dato.

One time on a driver familiarisation track walk, at Catalina, i asked the instructor, " what are all the deep gouges in the wooden sleepers at waist  height from?"
He replied,
"back in the day, they'd come three wide through the tunnel of love, the outside cars door handles would be hard against the timber sleepers the whole way around, these were the big touring cars, Beechey, Jane, Et al"

The gouges ate still there!

And i hope santa brought ypu all, some lovely stuff, i got two bags of salted peanuts, and a rootard HR 30 turbo skyline to pull apart

Hello all,
Speaking of Catalina Park has brought back memories of when I raced Rally Cross back in the early 80's. I embedded my car into the fence in the middle of the tunnel with a blown tyre which effectivrly closed the event down on the last Rally Cross meet at the Park. I walked around the Rally Cross track in 2007. It's a shame that it closed because it was a great experience and the presentations which were held in the old Carrington Hotel were memorable. The grand old Hotel looked a treat with all the race cars on trailers parked out front. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Happy and safe New Year.
David. :)
works for me!

I hope everyone had a top Christmas and are gearing up for a big New Year!

Funny how things pan out, I just dug out an Australian Classic car mag with a picture of my Zed in it for the ex-owners son to look at and there was an article on a Bol D'or held at Catalina held on Feb 28th 1998, (A Bol D'or is basically a one hour regularity with a pit stop). When was it Shut?
