value of a excellent condition 240z
« on: November 08, 2011, 05:18:36 PM »
Hello
I am new to the forum and own a very clean 1973 240z manual  , it is in excellent original condition. has original books (service and owners manual)
It is totally original with factory aircon and factory hubcaps , matching numbers with excellent interior .The only non original part of the car would be the 20 year ago respray . I need to free up some dollars for personal reasons and just wanted to get an idea on what this is worth. However i have other cars that i am not as attached to i can sell
this is not a for sale add , it is more to educate myself on what it worth if i do decide to sell as every where i drive my Z , i get asked if i want to sell it

Thank you

Joe

Hi Joe and welcome. Post some pictures of the car so we can get a better idea. Without seeing it its rather difficult to judge. Any rust? Previous accident damage? Does it run? Manual?

It all depends on what someone wants to pay for it at the time, but going by what I have seen over the last few years decent/good ones seem to sell from 10k upwards

Hi Mate

thank you for the reply , there is no rust that i can see and it looks like it has had a small repair in the rear , however this was prior to the repaint 20 years ago , It runs great and it is manual .......  will get some more pics up soon

yes they all start with hs30 or s30 its the last numbers that are the numbers we need to know. it tells you the build number. the lower the better

Interior (absolutely love that red interior mate) and engine bay look very original.

How about the engine is it the original engine with matching numbers to what's on the chassis plate?

You mentioned a respray about 20 years ago, was it the original colour that it was resprayed with?

Will need some exterior pictures, but if she's as original on the outside as she looks everywhere else then mate I would honestly set a price of at least $20k personally and see what interest you get. Provided she's rust free and structurally sound. (will need more pics though).

Thank you for the feed back ,
yes the engine number is the same on both engine and id plate , and here is the full number

HS30103744

the car is great on the outside and very straight and shinny , the paint was in the original white colour , the boot lid has a few cracks in the paint and the rest of the car is lovely

People aren't too concerned with build numbers for a '73, as they are probably going to be over 100,000

I was flipping through a classic car mag the other day that had a value guide. I think the best condition range was 20 to 30 thousand. Of course you'd be waiting for the right buyer for the higher range.

I'd agree with Gav, if it's as good as it sounds. If you are selling, start high. You can always reduce the price later, a bit harder to do the opposite.

If you are not as attached to your other cars - SELL THEM and not the Zed.
And just for eye candy, how about some more pictures for the fans. Not often we see the real thing in its original package.

Many have sold their zeds in the past and almost all have regretted it. Avoid it at all costs. If you sold it and regretted it later you would be very hard pressed to find another zed in such condition.

In all honesty between 15-20 would be a realistic price, closer to the 15 though. This all depends on how quickly you need to move it, so the quicker the cheaper.

I think people need to realise that the crazy silly money that was going around 4-5 years ago has disappeared, these cars were getting 20 then so to ask 20 now might be a bit much. That's not to say you might not get it so if you want give it a go but remember it might be sitting around for a while. One of the guys here has a pretty shmick 260 that's been going for a while and he's dropped his price a couple of times.

Wothout having seen full exterior and interior pics I can only guess that it's a daily or regular driven car from your description which means stone chips and maybe some faded paint. You did mention that the tailgate has some cracks in the paint, probably more due to the previous paint work thatn anything else but this means that there could well be more waiting to show its head. By no means am I suggesting that there's anything wrong with the car but in a daily/regular driven condition 14-15 might be closer to what you would get.

I recall a white 240 a few months ago around Werribee going for around 17, it sold but even at that price it was their for a while, also I just had a quick look on carsales and all the 40'z on their are around 18-19 so if you need to move it then putting it in for 16 would certainly get you some attention.

Oten it's easier advertising at close to your bottom dollar so that prospective buyers can feel like there still getting to haggle you down and feeling like they won, very important quicker sale. So if you'd be happy with 15-16 then put it in for around 18, oh and if they want to go further then start removing things like rego or any add ons like wheels, they soon come around.

At the end of the day though if people are coming up to you then ask them what they'd be willing to offer, if it works then go for it.
