Hs30-01415 - 904 White And Blue Interior - Auto - 71

Latest Posts - Sat, 09/06/2018 - 11:45

Hi Folks,
Opening myself to judgement here, but as was let out the bag here. It's time to start another thread, even though so far it's just been towed to storage and I haven't had a chance to work on it yet, with travels for work etc.. and it's likely much won't get done between now and the end of the year unfortunately.

This is car HS30 01415, which is 904 white and has the rare and elusive blue interior, I'm almost ashamed to say I bought the car for it's Interior colour only (perhaps because it reminds me of American Muscle Cars and Corvettes example1 and example2), but that's only half true. Of the total 388 HS30's (AU Delivered cars) I have records for, I can only confirm that 4 cars (including HS30 01415) have a blue interior. The blue interior cars to my knowledge were only available with 904 White in AU delivered trim. I haven't found a 903 Blue AU market 240z with a Blue interior yet, if such a unicorn does exist, I'll end up selling my soul to own it. So hopefully none do exist. :)

I'm sure that there was a few more blue interior cars than the 4 I have records of, for example Len Brennan's 240z (interior photo), but he doesn't recall the chassis no, and his ex-wife threw all the paperwork out, so we don't even know if the car still exists! (Last known registration in Victoria: KZU-567) and this 240z dump or restore. But outside of those 2 examples, the only blue interior cars I can confirm for sure are:

HS30-00063 - (Datsun 240Z & Japanese Woman, Melbourne International Motor Show, 5 Mar 1971) - This was once upon a time Frank Kilfoyle's car. HS30-00982 - Cuong's car, was sold to Singapore recently. HS30-00990 - Blue interior was removed when it was 'restored'. HS30-01415 - This car, which was originally purchased new by Laurie Ogle of NSW.   So that brings me to the original owner Laurie, I haven't spoken to him yet, and I don't actually know if Laurie is still with us. I hope he is, but what I do know about Laurie is that he truly cherished this car for many many years and only gave it up when his health meant he was no longer able to easily climb in and out of it.   It was around 2004/2005 when Laurie advertised the car for sale, and being an older gentleman he wasn't able to send digital photos of the car to prospective buyers. Instead someone I know in South Australia (Joe) who was interested in the car at the time was sent actual original photos from Laurie in the post and was requested to 'please mail them back' after receiving them. Joe was good enough to scan them in and save them before posting them back to Laurie in Split Junction NSW.   Here are the photos of it when Laurie still had the car. As you can see very original and well loved, the only real modification was the fender mirrors were moved and modified to fit on the door instead of the fenders (Laurie didn't like them up front, they looked silly).   NB: The original licence plates LO-062 (LO for Laurie Ogle).   1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg 240Zphoto1.jpg 240Zphoto2.jpg

Well im slowly making room for my new datsun project to start happening so figured would try and put up a build thread here.
Its a 76 2 seater automatic in need of some tlc. Wanting to take it back to original colour scheme of the blue outside white/cream inside.
But first to get it mechanically sorted enough for rego. Then maybe some bodywork or manual conversion.

Long Term Build Up - Which Direction?

Latest Posts - Fri, 08/06/2018 - 22:57

Hi all,

So, this is purely a planning question - infant son and return to Australia mean that the budget for works doesn't exist at the moment.   In any event, interior and maintenance tasks after long lay-up are first on the list.  owever, it is much easier to (not get caught) acquiring parts if done over a longer period.

Anyway, my zed has the original L24 in it, SU carbs and a mild cam (details not on hand).  Hunting for a bit more power for street use and the question is:

- do I acquire an L28 and slowly build up (most likely with OER carbs etc - Japanese parts are easy for me to get at the moment);

- do I develop the L24 a bit more (triples, ignition, perhaps minor engine work)?

Personally, we have two zeds in the family, one which has had a little bit of work (L26 crank and rods)  on SU carbs and mine (essentially stock).  I much prefer the way mine revs - but dad's has more power (we can't have that).

Thoughts?  (I am in the process of reading the modifying L series 'bible')

Of course, I wish Lurch's L24 build was an option!

Home Built Z 'full Video Build'

Latest Posts - Fri, 08/06/2018 - 22:55

Hey guys. Well I know it has been a while, but I have reached a stopping point on my 911 and it is time to start my Z build.

This week I first needed to replace the front wheel bearings on the 911 so I could put wheels on it and move it out of the way. I then got into doing a stocktake on my Z to see what it needed, and start formulating a plan for the build.

Here is the episode.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..

Classifieds - Fri, 08/06/2018 - 22:42
Hi Everyone,

If you are posting links to cars listed on ebay, it would be greatly appreciated if you could:

1.) Post the Ebay Item Number (usually located in the top right hand corner), along with the Ebay link. Sometimes ebay links are not reliable or don't work properly so including an item number is an easy way for others to look up the item if the link is broken.

2.) When the ebay listing is finished, if you could post the sale price and or the highest bid (if the item does not sell). If others are not watching an item, we cannot visit the item at a later stage easily so we cannot tell what it sold or didn't sell for.

3.) If possible save a few photo's from the auction and post them here. This is useful because it gives everyone an indication of current values and what you get for your money if you are looking to buy or sell.

This will help us all, for insurance reasons we have some proof of current values. For selling it helps us gauge our cars true worth and for curiosity sake we can compare year on year the values of our cars etc..

If anyone has further suggestions to this, please feel free to share them here.

The LightMaster Experience - REBOOTED.

Latest Posts - Fri, 08/06/2018 - 22:25
I'm posting up a few pics of the work I'm currently doing to Bruce's 240Z.
I've been hassling him for the last few month to let me at it - I didn't want to see it deterorate any further...
Bruce dropped it off mid last week & I've been doing a few hrs a day on it.

The current working list is as follows:
New P/S floor pan (rare sapres item).
New P/S chassis rail.
Re-fabricate the inner guard under the battery tray... (eeek!).
New Ferodo GT2 brake pads (the current Bendex's squeel like a 12yo, when cold...).
New waterpump.
New headgasket & reco the cyclinder head - I'll clean up the ports while I'm at it.

BTW, Bruce politly imformed me the other night that his username is actually 'SPA-master240' as he sells outdoor/portable Spa's for a living. NOT SPAM-aster240... Attached Thumbnails

Help! How To Buff My Rough Acrylic Paint Job

Latest Posts - Fri, 08/06/2018 - 16:19

It's not too bad, has sort of a fine bumpy surface and I'm not expecting a big shine, race car. But a bit better before the graphics go on would be good, I have a rotary buffer with wool and foam pads and don't want to risk going though, no experience means a cautious approach that can improve the finish a bit. Advice?
