Help With Correct Offset For Watanabes

Fri, 16/02/2018 - 19:21

hi all,

i am looking to replace my 260 style wheels with original option Watanabes

Looking at the original Nissan racing catalogues, you could get the 8 spoke watanabes in a number of sizes

i think it was a catalogue that gav scanned in

i'm happy with this width - 5.5 ( size of the 260 rims) and 6 j14, but i'd like to know the correct offset for these as the 14 " watanabes were made for a bunch of jap cars, including the toyota a86 of the era

i believe the correct offset is 0 for the standard wheel size

Joining The Datsun Crew With A 260Z

Fri, 16/02/2018 - 18:33
Hey Guys
I bought a 1977 260z with a L28 fitted.
I bought it off a father and son that are great and helpful.

Plan is to get the car running right for a nice weekend cruise.
And then work on the exterior.
After reading a fair few posts on this forum, glad I have joined it.

The Z31 Project - Race Car

Fri, 16/02/2018 - 15:35

Pics are always good so below are some taken with the engine and transmission still in which show the huge amount of space for big tyres in the wheel wells. Those are the race Hoosiers off the 280 which bolt straight up with no clearance problems, F 9" rims, R 9.5". I'm bloody rapt, so much space for bigger wheels and tyres.

DSCN0300.JPG DSCN0301.JPG DSCN0302.JPG DSCN0303.JPG

The project itself should start next week with filling in the T top openings and adding some structural bracing across the top of the door openings.

Seeing that it's a turbo model the brakes look like they have Z32 rotors, just need some decent calipers. One thing I've learnt is that suitable brake pads are very important, proper race ones will withstand extreme temperatures and actually brake much better. Having stock rotors means that they are not expensive to replace too. The rear axles are second generation CV jointed and for the R200 diff a reasonably priced Quaife LSD centre is available. Keeping all the stock type suspension, the rear will be interesting, I have some fairly dramatic mods in mind to get the semi trailing arm setup working satisfactorily

So the project is going to be stock based except for the engine and auto trans.

Wanted 240Z Dashboard "frame" Only

Thu, 15/02/2018 - 20:11

Hi Folks,

Since I just responded to Mick's wanted ad for a 240z dashboard I figured I'd ask if anyone has a dashboard frame (only). Here is a rough dashboard I have.

The frame is a bit rusty and will need a good sandblast and clean up, 1 or 2 of the top metal brackets will need to be fabricated as they have rusted through to the point of being useless.

Rather than busy a nut fixing it, I'm wondering if anyone has a good frame they don't need anymore? Maybe your padding is so far gone that the only good thing left is the frame? In which case I'd love to buy it!

Guard Rolling Tool

Thu, 15/02/2018 - 18:57
Hi Guys.
Just wondering what if someone round Sydney has a guard rolling tool they would be happy to loan.
I put some 225/50 Toyo r888R’s on my 15” +4 wheels and got some minor scrub that needs to stop.

Ebay ones are pretty cheap but I don’t really want to buy one if I could avoid it as it’ll be a one off use I’d reckon.

Please let me know by reply or pm.
Thanks

More Gearknob Inserts

Thu, 15/02/2018 - 18:41

Hey Folks,
If you missed out on the freebies here, don't worry I have some more. Member Enzo has donated a bunch to help raise funds for hosting the site.

Here is how it will work.

Price:
Each button / insert is priced at: $10.
If I use the right envelope postage within Australia at most should be: $5 (not tracked, not insured).

You can order more than 1 at at time to save on postage, there is around 49 left.

I do not want to run to the post office to mail these out individually (it's time consuming to package, post and write down address details etc..), instead I'll collect everyone's payment and will post them all in 1 go. So I'll need your postage details also. PM is probably best.

Details I will need from you to post these.

1. Name (Full Name)
2. Address to send items to.
3. Contact Phone (optional but may be helpful).
4. Quantity of inserts desired.

Keep in mind that as Enzo pointed out these may not last 30-40 years, but in a car driven as often as an S30Z we hope you'll get at least a few out of them. The quality is in my opinion better than those I got from ZCarDepot in the US. Who knows how long either will hold up though?

You can find gearknobs on eBay US (4 speed ones) and remove the old button and glue these down.

I want to give local members first dibs at these, before I offer to send them outside Australia.

Buyer List

Thu, 15/02/2018 - 09:41
I gave this car to my nephew back in December, he has decided that he doesn't want to restore it. Body is in good condition, but will need a bit of work. No visible rust, but needs a good paint job. Stored for over 30 years in dry shed, now sitting in open shed, we want this car to be saved by someone passionate about it.
Not complete car, but has lots of spare parts.
3 heads 2 N42, 1 E31.
2 short blocks.
1 long block.
2 240z double SU carbies with manifolds.
280zx fuel injection.
Reconditioned close ratio gear box, never used.

Spare LHS inner guard with rail.

Wanted - Inner Front Guard Panels

Wed, 14/02/2018 - 21:06

As the title says, I am looking for a pair of the vertical panels that go inside the front guards behind the front wheels. If someone knows what I am talking about and what they are called that would help. If someone has a wreck around (I am assuming a 2+2 would have the same panels) let us know.

If I have to I will fabricate some, but it is a fair bit of stuffing around.

Let me know,

Jeff

Paul's 1977 260Z

Wed, 14/02/2018 - 19:50

Hi peoples

My name is Paul

So i dun did a thing and got myself a '77 260Z, well most of a 260Z, pretty sure i got all the bits, most of the bits........

I have been a lurker on this for a while now, thought i would reserve my first post for when i had a car. I have been looking for one for a while now but figured i wouldn't be able to afford a nice one (at least all in one go to buy one) so i decided to go with a project in progress. under no illusions that restoring a car is a cheap endeavor.

The dream is to restore the car back to its former self with a few little mods here and there like suspension, brakes ect.

The shell looks like its in pretty good shape with a few little issues here and there. looks like the battery tray has had a bit of a hack job done to it and the outside of the shell is in black etch primer with some dents ripples and a few rust holes. The rotisserie came with the car

I'm thinking the first step will be to get the car media blasted and put in epoxy primer for the beginning of the bodywork, I have lots to learn never taken on a project at this scale before but i would like to do as much as i can myself.i have a few mate with a bit of experience with restorations like this so lots of support.

Anyway enjoy the photos, thoughts suggestions and constructive criticism very welcome, will update at i progress

280Zx Fuel Cap

Wed, 14/02/2018 - 07:52

Hey guys,

I am chasing a fuel filler cap for my 82' 280zx, the ones I looked at from Supercheap Auto and Repco are completely the wrong type. Anyone know if there is a third-party one that will fit the screw type?

Pic attached for reference
